Overseas applicants, who have completed the OTSR from a TRA Approved registered training organisation (RTO), will need to contact the Construction Occupations Registrar of the ACT Government who is responsible for issuing plumbing licences in the Australian Capital Territory. The Construction Occupations Registrar is a part of Access Canberra.

Overseas applicants, who have completed the OTSR from a TRA-approved registered training organisation (RTO), are eligible to be issued a Provisional Tradesperson Certificate for a period of 36 months.

The Holder of a Provisional Tradesperson Certificate must work under the supervision of a holder of the Endorsed Contractor Licence or Qualified Supervisor's Certificate in Plumbing. You will also need to be enrolled in an approved training course to complete Australian context gap training before being issued the Certificate III in Plumbing and the full Tradesperson Certificate.

New South Wales has the following three (3) types of licence/certificate for plumbing, drainage and gasfitting:

• Tradesperson Certificate, which allows the holder to work as an employee under general supervision
• Qualified Supervisor Certificate, which allows the holder to work as an employee, or supervise the work
• Endorsed Contractor Licence, which is for a sole trader who can contract for work and undertake or supervise the work.

Overseas applicants, who have completed the OTSR from a TRA-approved registered training organisation (RTO), are eligible for Conditional Journeyman Registration for a period of 12 months. Conditional Journeyman Registration is not transferrable to any other State or Territory.

While holding conditional registration you must attend a RTO in the Northern Territory to complete identified Australian context gap training to obtain the Certificate III in Plumbing. You will also need to be employed by, and work under the supervision of an Advanced Tradesman licence holder to gain practical experience in the Australian context for 12 months. At the end of the 12 months, you can apply for full Journeyman Registration.

The Northern Territory Plumbers and Drainers Licensing Board is responsible for issuing plumbing licences and registration in the Northern Territory.

Overseas applicants, who have completed the OTSR from a TRA-approved registered training organisation (RTO), may be eligible to be issued a Provisional Licence for a period of 12 months. A Provisional Licence holder must work under the supervision of a current holder of an occupational licence for the work.

Applications must include provide copies of the applicant’s qualifications, overseas licences (if held) and details of experience held.  Applicants may be required to undergo a written, oral or practical examination to assess the applicant’s ability to competently practise the plumbing and drainage trade in Queensland as part of the application process.

Overseas qualified applicants may be required to complete additional training or assessment by a Registered Training Organisation to be eligible for an occupational licence allowing unsupervised work.  Contractor licensing requirements also apply in Queensland.

Overseas applicants, who have completed the OTSR from a TRA-approved registered training organisation (RTO), are eligible to be issued Restricted Registration. A Restricted Registration holder is required to work under supervision, and should obtain advice and direction from the supervising unrestricted plumbing worker before commencing any work. On completion of your work, the supervisor must check that the work is implemented correctly before it is in use.

Holder of Restricted Registration must attend a RTO in South Australia to complete identified Australian context gap training to be issued an approved qualification. A copy of the qualification along with an academic transcript, will need to be supplied when you apply for a change in condition of your registration with Consumer and Business Services to remove the restriction of working under direct supervision.

Overseas applicants, who have completed the OTSR from a TRA-approved registered training organisation (RTO), are eligible to be issued a Provisional Licence for a period of 12 months. A Provisional Licence holder must work under the supervision of a current holder of the Practitioner or Contractor Licence in Plumbing. You will also need to be enrolled in an approved training course to complete Australian context gap training before being issued the Certificate III in Plumbing and the Practitioner Licence.

Overseas applicants, who have completed the OTSR from a TRA-approved registered training organisation (RTO), are eligible to apply for a Provisional Tradesperson's licence. The licence is valid for a period of 12 Months.

The holder of a Provisional tradesperson's licence can work under the supervision of a licensed plumbing contractor or licensed tradesperson to gain practical experience in the Australian context. The holder of a Provisional tradesperson's licence must also attend an RTO to complete identified Australian context gap training to qualify for the Certificate III in Plumbing or the Certificate in Migrant Plumbing.

On completion of the Certificate III in Plumbing or Certificate in Migrant Plumbing, Provisional tradesperson's licence holders may apply to the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety-Building and Energy Division (Building and Energy) for a Tradesperson's licence. In Western Australia, the holder of a Tradesperson’s licence can undertake plumbing work under the general control and supervision of a Licensed plumbing contractor. Further training is required for the holder of a Tradesperson’s licence to be eligible to apply for a Plumbing contractor's licence.

The Plumbers Licensing Board (PLB) is responsible for issuing plumbing licences and permits in Western Australia. Building and Energy administers occupational licences on behalf of the PLB and is the first point of contact.
